Sad News

We woke up to some sad news this morning. The new bird is dead. :( B came down and asked me where the bird was. Ri was still sleeping, so we woke him up to ask him if he knew where the bird was. When Ri sat up, we found the bird...smooshed underneath him.

Ri had put the bird in his cage before bed, but there was a small opening in the door of the cage and the bird must have squeezed out. He was an escape artist and we weren't able to put him in the cage with the cockatiel because he would squeeze out between the bars in one part that was a tiny bit wider than the rest. So, he must have figured out a way to get out of the door that wasn't shut all of the way.

He was a real cuddler and would snuggle under the boys arms and chest when they were laying on the ground. So, I'm sure he flew out of the cage to snuggle with Riley when he was sleeping and Ri must have laid on top of him in his sleep. He feels terrible. We all loved that bird....we would make kissing noises and he would fly to our shoulder or finger. He loved to be with people and chirped to be let out of his cage whenever one of us would walk by.

Poor Ri. He feels awful about how Spartan must have suffered. There is a bird fair today that we had been planning on going to, so maybe that will help him feel better.

It was an accident, darling. Nana loves you so much and will give you hugs when you get to Minnesota. I'm so sorry about your bird......
